Steam Conversion Seminar: A seminar for Maintenance and Engineering personnel looking for an overview of systems operation and techniques for improving performance. Walk through your own system and discuss those “tough to solve” problems that you have experienced. Compare notes with your peers in industry.
In this course, attendees will receive extensive practical information on the design, operation and installation of the steam systems and their components. The seminar is an outstanding starting point for personnel new to the steam systems industry or for seasoned professionals who want a solid review.
Participants will gain a thorough knowledge of how the steam loop functions:
- Basic thermodynamics
- Live demonstrations and hands-on experiments in the Center's glass distribution system.
- The advantages, disadvantages, limitations and sizing considerations for every component in a steam system.
The program highlights energy saving opportunities in design, application, and maintenance. Specific trouble-shooting and problem solving techniques will also be developed.
Focus Topics
- Basic steam concepts and fundamentals
- Boilers: an introduction to operating principles
- Steam distribution systems sizing to limit noise, pressure drop and erosion
- Heat exchangers devices and piping arrangements
- Steam traps: their function and basic operating principles
- Regulators and control valves: Where are they utilized? How do they work?
- Condensate return systems: alternative models
- Air handling unit coils: potential problems, causes and solutions
- Solving system problems: dealing with water hammer, freezing, erosion, and noise
- Guidelines for condensate drainage and steam trapping
- Efficient use of flash steam
- Computerized PM: a cost effective solution
